Dr. Jody Edward Ginn

Dr. Jody Edward Ginn is the Director of Development and official historian for the Texas Ranger Association Foundation. A U.S. Army veteran and former law enforcement officer, Dr. Ginn brings a wealth of experience to his role, combining deep historical expertise with firsthand knowledge of public service.

Before transitioning to a career as a professional historian, Dr. Ginn dedicated fifteen years to law enforcement, serving in various capacities, including patrol, civil, and warrants officer, investigator, and administrator. His extensive field experience informs his work in historical research, bringing authenticity and depth to his scholarship.

Dr. Ginn holds a Doctor of Philosophy in History from the University of North Texas, along with a Master of Arts in History (specializing in Public History) and a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Texas State University. His academic excellence has been recognized through prestigious awards, including the Fred White, Jr. Research Fellowship in Texas History from the Texas State Historical Association in 2001 and 2002.

As a historian, Dr. Ginn has produced numerous refereed publications, including journal articles, anthology chapters, and books. His first solo book launched in July 2019, further cementing his reputation as a respected authority in the field. He also serves as a contract historical consultant, writer, and researcher on a variety of projects, contributing to museum exhibits, books, and educational and promotional films.

In addition to his scholarly and consulting work, Dr. Ginn was an adjunct associate professor of history at Austin Community College. His expertise has been sought in major media outlets, including USA Today, Time Magazine, the UK Daily Mirror, and Bustle.com. He also served as a historical consultant for publicity on the blockbuster Netflix Original Film, The Highwaymen, starring Kevin Costner, Woody Harrelson, Kathy Bates, and Kim Dickens.

With his unique blend of academic scholarship and practical experience, Dr. Ginn plays a vital role in preserving and promoting the legacy of the Texas Rangers while supporting the mission of the Texas Ranger Association Foundation.
