The Texas Ranger Association Foundation (“TRAF”) , A 501c3 Non Profit, supports active and retired Texas Rangers and immediate family members through scholarships, financial assistance, and operational support in service to the citizens of Texas. TRAF works to preserve and promote the history and heritage of the Texas Rangers through public education and by supporting the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum.
The Texas Rangers conduct major violent crime, public corruption, cold case and officer involved shooting investigations and oversee the department’s border security and tactical and crisis negotiation programs.
The Rangers lead the department’s border security program with a mission to deter, detect and interdict criminal activity across the Texas/Mexico border. The program provides direct support to the U.S. Border Patrol through combined operations that leverage timely intelligence and cost-effective detection technologies, including a network of sensor cameras and UAVs that support tactical ground, air and marine operations targeting Mexican Cartel smuggling.
The Rangers oversee the department's tactical program and operations, which includes the DPS SWAT Team, six Regional Special Response Teams, a Ranger Recon Team, an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team and crisis negotiators assigned to each DPS Region. These specialized units are staffed by Troopers, Special Agents and Texas Rangers.
The Rangers oversee the state's crime scene program with certified subject matter experts stationed throughout the state equipped with the latest crime scene technologies, including 3D laser scanners.
Investigation Program provides Texas law enforcement agencies with resources for investigating unsolved murders, or what appear to be serial or linked cases. The Cold Case website was created with those efforts in mind, to assist such cases in establishing further investigative leads. This program creates national, constructive exposure of unsolved cases with the intention of identifying dangerous offenders, resulting in case resolutions and providing justice for victims of violent crimes.
